COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland men’s tennis team did not drop a set while posting a 7-0 win over the University of Delaware Saturday afternoon in the Blue Hens’ spring opener.
Maryland improved to 7-2 on the season as the Terrapins defeated the Blue Hens for the fifth straight time since the 2000 season, while Delaware fell to 3-1 on the year.
Maryland’s Nickolai Nielsen defeated senior Jesse Carl 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Andrew Orban topped senior Adam Liebman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Scott Fink posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over freshman Nolan Greenberg at No. 3, while Boris Fetbroyt defeated sophomore Jonathan Schwartz 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. John O’Rourke topped freshman Josh Levine 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, and Michael Coleman dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over senior Philip Wayne at No. 6.
Orban and Fink defated Carl and Greenberg 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Fetbroyt and Josh Brauser edged Schwartz and Levine 9-7 at No. 2. Nielsen and Coleman needed a tiebreaker in a 9-8 (3) win over Wayne and sophomore Zach Chafitz at No. 3.
The Blue Hens return to action on Sunday when Delaware hosts Lafayette at 11 a.m.
