Delaware Men's Tennis Defeats Hofstra, 5-2

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis squads swept Colonial Athletic Association foe Hofstra University Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts in a match highlighted by a school record-tying performance by Susan Pollack and Amanda Campbell.

The Delaware women (8-6, 3-2 CAA) captured every singles and doubles match to win their fourth straight decision with a 7-0 triumph over Hofstra while the Blue Hen men won four of six singles matches on the way to a 5-2 victory over the Pride. The Blue Hen men (7-6, 2-2 CAA) won for the third time in their last four matches. The Hofstra men fell to 4-8 (0-4 CAA) while the women dropped to 3-9 (0-5 CAA).

Pollack and Campbell highlighted the match for the UD women as Pollack downed Erika Reggiani 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 singles and Campbell posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stacey Kent at the No. 2 spot. The duo also teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Reggiani and Jill Spiritus to win their 20th doubles match of the season, tying the school record set by the team of Kristin Wasniewski and Rachel Dencker, who went 20-1 during the 1997-98 season. Pollack and Campbell improved to 20-5 on the season at doubles while individually, Pollack improved to 16-6 at No. 1 singles and Campbell improved to 13-8 at No. 2 singles.

Other winners for the UD women were Liz Perlow at No. 3 singles, Sari Shuster at No. 4, Alexis Dragonette at No. 5, and Brittany Barsky at No. 6. Barsky improved to a team-leading 16-3 at singles this season with her fifth straight win. Dragonette and Barsky then teamed for an 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Shuster and Julie Schiller won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to finish off the sweep.

On the men’s side, Nolan Greenberg, Adam Liebman, Jason Schwartz, and Josh Levine (above) all picked up singles victories for the Hens while Jason Hanschmann and Philip Wayne teamed for a win at No. 2 doubles and Schwartz and Levine were winners at the No. 3 doubles position.

Greenberg improved to 13-6 on the year in singles play while Schwartz improved to 12-5 and Levine moved to 10-6. Greenberg and Schwartz each extended their singles winning streaks to four matches. Wayne improved to 41-22 all-time in doubles play at Delaware, moving into a tie for fourth on the all-time UD career doubles wins list.
