University of Delaware Men's Tennis Team Earns No. 7 Seeds at CAA Championships This Weekend, Will Face Drexel in First Round Thursday

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams each earned the No. 7 seed and will face Drexel in the first round of the CAA Tennis Championships this weekend at Huntington Park.

The Blue Hen men’s team, which is 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference this season, will take on the 10th-seeded Dragons Thursday at 9 a.m. in the first round. The winner of that match moves on to face second-seeded Old Dominion in the quarterfinals Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Monarchs feature the 30th-ranked singles player in the country in Harel Srugo, who is also ranked 50th on the doubles list with teammate Aleksandr Seleznev.

No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth is the top seed in the men’s bracket, followed by Old Dominion, William & Mary, Georgia State, UNC Wilmington, James Madison and Delaware.

The Delaware women, who are 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the league, will also face 10th-seeded Drexel Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the first round. The winner of that match will take on No. 22 and second-seeded William & Mary in the quarterfinals Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Tribe featues Megan Moulton-Levy, the 18th-ranked singles player in the nation, and Katarina Zoricic, who is currently ranked 78th. The duo is ranked 21st on the doubles list.

The 14th-ranked Rams arealso the top seed in the women’s tournament, followed by William & Mary, Old Dominion, UNC Wilmington, Georgia State, James Madison and Delaware.

The Blue Hen men are led by Jonathan Schwartz (above), who is 11-5 this season, and Nolan Greenberg, who is 13-6 on the year. Jason Hanschmann and Philip Wayne have gone 6-4 at No. 2 doubles for Delaware.

The Delaware women are led by the doubles pair of Susan Pollack and Amanda Campbell, who are ranked 59th in the country and have tied the school single-season wins record for a doubles team with a 20-5 mark. Pollack is also 16-6 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Hens, while Campbelll is 13-8 and Brittany Barsky is 16-3 on the year.

Both Delaware teams have advanced to the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals in each of the last four seasons, but neither has advanced past that round.

Match #6: No. 4 Georgia State vs. No. 5 UNC Wilmington - 4:30 p.m.

Semifinals - Saturday, April 22
Match #7: Match #3 winner vs. Match #4 winner - 10 a.m.

Championship - Sunday, April 23
Match #9: Match #7 winner vs. Match #8 winner - 10 a.m.
