RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior Adam Blomberg, who helped lead the men's swim team to a program-best third place finish at the Colonial Athletic Championships, has been named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming for the second straight season, the league office announced this week.

The CAA awards a Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each of the 21 sports that it sponsors each season based on nominations from school sports information directors. Nominees must have a 3.2 or better grade point average, be a sophomore or older in class standing, and be a starter or key reserve for his or her team. The winners are selected by a vote of sports information directors.

Blomberg, a senior from Kennewick, WA (Kamiakin High School), is a four-time letterwinner for the Delaware swim team. This season he recorded four top-10 finishes at the CAA Championship meet, including a first-place showing during the 400-freestyle relay. Along with the title, he also finished fourth during the 400-medley and 800-freestyle relays, while he came in eighth during the 200-butterfly.

He rounded out his successful championship week with a 13th place finish during the 100 butterfly.

Blomberg ended his standout four-year career with the third best time in school history in the 200-butterfly (1:55.13) and the seventh fastest time in the 100-yard event (51.69). Along with his individual marks, he also was a member of the program's fastest 400-medley (3:24.96), 400-freestyle (3:01.50), and 800-freestyle (6:53.59) relays as well as the second-best 200-freestyle (1:24.50) and fourth-fastest 200-medley (1:35.64) relay squads.

A Dean’s List student as a physics major with a minor in business and management information systems, Blomberg has been named to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll during each of his four years at Delaware. He carries a 3.75 grade point index and was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team.

Blomberg is the third University of Delaware student-athlete to be honored this season. During the fall, Mike Byrne was the Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year for football, while Colleen Walsh received the honor in volleyball.

In addition to Blomberg, the other winter sport honorees were William & Mary's David Schneider in men's basketball, Old Dominion's Megan Pym in women's basketball, and Drexel's Ryan Hluschak and Kate Hynes in wrestling and women's swimming, respectively.
