NEWARK, DE -- Men’s swimming standout Adam Blomberg, who will earn his degree in physics from the University of Delaware on Saturday, has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic Men’s At-Large University Division Team.

Blomberg (at right), a senior from Kennewick, WA (Kamiakin High School), was one of 10 student-athletes selected from a vote of sports information directors from the region. He earned a spot on the team for the second straight year and is now eligible for the national CoSIDA Academic All-American team. That team will be announced later this month.

The University Division includes all NCAA Division I schools with District 2 encompassing institutions in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The at-large team includes all sports other than football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and track and field. To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve for their team, and have at least sophomore eligibility.

Blomberg, a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s swimming, is a four-time letterwinner at Delaware. This season he recorded four top 10 finishes at the CAA Championship meet, including a first place showing during the 400-freestyle relay. Along with the title, he also finished fourth in the 400-medley and 800-freestyle relays and came in eighth in the 200-butterfly. He rounded out his successful championship week with a 13th place finish in the 100-butterfly competition.

He ended his standout four-year career with the third best time in school history in the 200-butterfly (1:55.13) and the seventh fastest time in the 100-butterfly event (51.69). Along with his individual marks, he also was a member of the program's all-time fastest 400-medley (3:24.96), 400-freestyle (3:01.50), and 800-freestyle (6:53.59) relays as well as the second-best 200-freestyle (1:24.50) and fourth-fastest 200-medley (1:35.64) relay squads.

A Dean’s List student as a physics major with a minor in business and management information systems, Blomberg has been named to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll during each of his four years at Delaware. He carries a 3.75 grade point index and was recognized earlier this month with the ECAC Medal of Merit Award as the UD senior male letterwinner with the highest grade point average. He also was named the swimming team’s UD Sportsmanship Award winner each of the last two seasons.

Blomberg was one of just two swimmers to earn a spot on the CoSIDA All-District team, joining Nick Delic of West Virginia. Also selected to the team were Navy’s Eric Gardiner (water polo) and Chris Renninger (golf), Princeton’s Landis Stankievech (ice hockey), Temple’s Paul Amess (golf), Johns Hopkins’ Paul Rabil (lacrosse), Robert Morris’ Joel Gaspar (golf), Penn State’s Max Lipsitz (volleyball), and George Washington’s Sam Salyer (tennis).
