SOMERS, WI -- Both the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have earned national Top 25 rankings in the collegeswimming.com NCAA Division I Mid-Major poll announced recently.
The Delaware men, who have posted a 5-4 record this season, earned a No. 18 ranking while the Blue Hen women, who are 10-1 in duals to date, are ranked No. 23. The rankings are based on a point system compiled by collegeswimming.com involving dual meet and invitational results.
Both Delaware men’s and women’s teams have been off since early December and will resume action Jan. 6 at CAA foe Towson University at 1 p.m.
In the men’s poll, Navy is atop the rankings with 188.34 points followed by Princeton, Eastern Michigan, Cornell, Western Kentucky, Missouri State, Massachusetts, UC-Irvine, Denver, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the top 10. Oakland is at No. 11 followed by Southern Illinois, UMBC, Binghamton, UNC Wilmington, Marist, St. Bonaventure, Delaware, LaSalle, James Madison, William & Mary, Florida Atlantic, Towson, Saint Louis, and Pacific.
Three of Delaware’s four losses this season have been to teams in the Top 25, including setbacks to No. 21 William & Mary (201-150), No. 16 Marist (244-126), and No. 19 LaSalle (135-108). The Hens will face No. 23 Towson Jan. 6 and No. 20 James Madison Jan. 13.
In the women’s poll, Harvard is at No. 1 followed by Navy, Miami (OH), Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Richmond, Western Kentucky, Toledo, and Southern Illinois in the top 10. Saint Louis is at No. 11 followed by UMBC, William & Mary, George Mason, Colgate, Illinois State, UNC Wilmington, Denver, Towson, Wright State, Missouri State, Marist, Delaware, North Texas, and Massachusetts.
The Blue Hens earlier this season defeated George Mason (156-144) and Marist (221-149) and fell to William & Mary (228-124). Delaware will take on No. 19 Towson Jan. 6.
