Zinn Captures 50 Freestyle in First Day of Old Dominion Quad Meet

NORFOLK, VA -- Andrew Zinn was the University of Delaware’s lone individual champion, capturing the 50 freestyle during the first day of a Colonial Athletic Association men’s and women’s swimming tri-meet Friday night at Old Dominion University.

The meet includes men’s and women’s teams from Delaware, Old Dominion, and William & Mary. The second and final day of the meet begins Saturday at 9 a.m.

After the first day, ODU leads Delaware 111-56 and William & Mary 108-59 while William & Mary leads Delaware 102-65.

The Delaware men posted 14 top six finishes led by Zinn, who won the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.49. Also for the Hens, Adam Blomberg was second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.92) and third in the 200 butterfly (1:59.71), and teamed with Levan Beridze, James Lavender, and Zinn to place second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.84). Joe Virion was third in the 1,650 freestyle (16:49.34) while Beridze was fourth in the 50
freestyle (22.16).

On the women’s side, Delaware collected 16 top six finishes led by Emily Watts’ second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:00.14), a second place finish by Ellen Heinz in the 200 freestyle (1:56.96), and a second place finish by the 200 freestyle relay team of Stephanie House, Maryann Walker, Kendall Warren, and Sarah Begley in 1:41.18. Watts and Heinz teamed with Lauren Southard and Sarah Begley for a third place finish in
the 400 medley relay (4:04.20), and Begley added a third place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.30)
