RICHMOND, VA -- Members of the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are well represented on the Colonial Athletic Association Mid-Season Top Times rankings release by the league office this week.
The University of Delaware women posted 30 times among the top 20 among conference schools while the Blue Hen men recorded 17 different top 20 times. On the women’s side, James Madison and Northeastern each had six No. 1times so far this season while William & Mary had four. For the men, UNC Wilmington claimed the No. 1 time in 10 events followed by George Mason with six.
Both Blue Hen teams will resume dual meet action Jan. 7 when Delaware hosts CAA foe Towson at 1 p.m. at Rawstrom Pool. The CAA Championships will be held Feb. 22-25 at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
The only Blue Hen athlete with the CAA’s top time to date this season is freshman diver Alyson Oliver, whose score of 279.30 in the one-meter dive is tops among all league divers so far this season. She also has the fifth best score in the three-meter dive (256.20).
Also for the UD women, Emily Watts ranks sixth in the 100 backstroke (59.84) and 11th in the 200 backstroke (2:09.60), Lauren Southard is sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.37) and eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.30), Kellie Pastore is 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.06) and 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.79), Erin Phillips is 11th in the 1,650 freestyle (17:52.86), and Emily Smathers is 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.12) and 13th in the 200 backstroke (2:09.65).
Also, Shannon Burke is 12th in both the one-meter (231.98) and three-meter (231.98) diving events, Sarah Begley is 14th in the 100 butterfly (59.50) and 19th in the 50 freestyle (25.06), Meredith Law is 14th in the 500 freestyle (5:11.41), 15th in the 400 individual medley (4:42.08), and 16th in the 1,650 freestyle (18:06.40), Ellen Heinz is 15th in the 200 freestyle (1:56.10) and 500 freestyle (5:11.59), Michelle Stephens is 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.48), Brenna Davis is 16th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.91), and Maryann Walker is 17th in the 200 freestyle (1:56.85).
Delaware also ranks ninth in the 200 medley relay (1:50.86), 10th in the 400 medley relay (4:01.00), 10th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:35.94), and 11th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.18).
The Delaware men are led by Matt Abbruzzese (right), who ranks sixth in the one-meter dive (240.30) and seventh in the three-meter dive (249.65), and by Andrew Zinn, who ranks seventh in the 50 freestyle (21.46) and 12th in the 100 freestyle (47.55).
Also for the Blue Hen men, Levan Beridze ranks 11th in the 100 freestyle (47.47) and 14th in the 50 freestyle (21.76), Joe Virion ranks 12th in the 1,650 freestyle (16:49.34), Adam Blomberg is 15th in the 200 butterfly (1:58.30) and 20th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.79) and 100 butterfly (54.05), Garrett Arant is 16th in the 1,650 freestyle (16:55.92) and 17th in the 200 backstroke (1:58.79), and Troy Sattgast ranks 20th in the 200 butterfly (2:00.40).
In the relays, Delaware ranks ninth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.84), ninth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:12.58), 18th in the 200 medley relay (1:58.79), and 20th in the 400 medley relay (3:39.66).
