Delaware 121, Howard 77 February 6, 2003  Delaware Men Win Big in Dual Meet Finale  Complete Results NEWARK, DE - The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet season with decisive victories over Howard University Thursday afternoon at Rawstrom Pool. The UD men (2-8) snapped a three-meet losing streak with a 121-77 win over Howard while the Delaware women (7-4) posted a 160-53 win over the Bison women. Both Delaware teams will have two weeks off before heading to the Colonial Athletic Association championships Feb. 19-22 at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. The Delaware men captured six first place finishes while the UD women were winners in 11 of the 13 races. Multiple winners were Julie Van Deusen (Hill School, Pa./Bear, DE), Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ), Kristen Avioli (Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA), Sarah Bacewicz (Tolland/Tolland, CT), Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE), and Sarah Peffer (Newark/Newark, DE) for the women and Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA), Rick Dressel (McKean/Wilmington, DE), and Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) for the UD men. Van Deusen capped the season undefeated in the one-meter and three-meter diving events as she won both easily Thursday while also placing second in the 50 freestyle (26.67). Avioli won the 100 backstroke (1:03.06) and swam the first leg of the winning 400 medley relay team (4:15.46), Bacewicz won the 100 butterfly (1:02.00) and swam in the 400 medley relay, Stephens won the 50 freestyle (26.05) and swan in the 400 medley relay, Petry captured both the 200 freestyle (2:01.37) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.13), and Peffer won the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.24) and 200 individual medley (2:01.37). Also winning for the Blue Hens was Jill Fitzgerald (Arch. Wood/Warminster, PA) in the 100 freestyle (54.50). For the men, Wasiewski won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.60), Weisser won the 500 freestyle (4:49.48), Dressel won the 100 butterfly (53.11), Jeff Shields (Lawrence/Lawrenceville, NJ) captured the 200 freestyle (1:49.32), Adam Goldstein (Vernon Twp./Highland Lakes, NJ) won the 1,000 freestyle (10:20.34), and the 400 medley relay squad of Alex Skacel (Holy Cross/Moorestown, N), Wasiewski, Dressel, and Weisser) won in 3:43.88. Other top performances were put in by Chrissy Kapelewski (Severn Park/Millersville, MD) who picked up a second in the 100 freestyle (56.90) and a third in the 200 individual medley (2:17.56); Skacel was also second in the 100 backstroke (55.79), Wasiewski was second in the 200 individual medley (2:02.13), Kevin Kotowski (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) was second in the 100 freestyle (50.65) and third in the 50 freestyle (22.81); and David Hardie (Dickinson, DE/Taipei, Taiwan) was second in the 50 freestyle (22.65) and 400 medley relay (3:49.04), and was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.31).
