November 4, 2002 Weisser, Skacel Lead Blue Hens in Loss WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team swept Georgia Southern and host Georgetown while the Blue Hen men dropped a dual to Georgetown Saturday afternoon. In the women's meet, Delaware diver Julie Van Deusen (Hill School, Pa./Bear, DE) captured both diving events and Chrissy Kapelewski (Severna Park/Millersville, MD) swam a leg on two winning relay events to lead the Blue Hens (2-1) to wins of 161.5-72.5 over Georgetown and 139-92 over Georgia Southern in the three-way meet. On the men's side, Georgetown captured a 125-112 victory but Delaware (0-2) received multiple wins from Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) in the 500 freestyle (4:54.72) and 1,000 freestyle (10:09.03) and from Alex Skacel (Holy Cross/Moorestown, NJ) in the 400 medley relay (3:42.74) and 400 individual medley (4:23.90). Van Deusen, a 2002 NCAA diving finalist, won the one-meter event with 236.30 points and captured the three-meter event with 278.25 points. Delaware also got first place finishes from Jill Fitzgerald (Wood/Warminster, PA) in the 100 freestyle (54.78), Kim Fields (Severna Park/Severna Park, MD) in the 500 freestyle (5:16.05), Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.10), and from the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.81) and 400 medley relay (4:04.73) teams. Also for the UD women, Fields was second in the 1,000 freestyle, Kapelewski was second in the 200 freestyle (1:58.95), and Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) was second in both the 200 butterfly (2:09.88) and 200 breaststroke (2:29.63), Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) was second in the 50 freestyle (25.94), and Krysta Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancastser, PA) was second in the 200 backstroke (2:14.97). Sara Stephens and Wasiewski also competed in the winning 400 medley relay. Also picking up a first place finish for the UD men was Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA) in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.59). Wasiewski also teamed with Skacel, Rick Dressel (McKean/Wilmington, DE), and Kevin Kotowski (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) for a win in the 400 medley relay. Skacel also placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:00.71) and Colin Gibson (Radnor/Villanova, PA) was second in both the 100 freestyle (51.10) and 400 freestyle relay (3:21.91).
