Dressel Wins Two Races for Blue Hen Men

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team picked up its third straight victory and the Drexel men downed the Blue Hen men in a Colonial Athletic Association meet Saturday at Drexel's Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The Blue Hen women improved to 3-1 (1-1 CAA) with a 146-79 win over Drexel while the Drexel men defeated the Blue Hens (0-3, 0-2 CAA) by a 135-102 score. The Delaware women have now defeated Drexel 11 straight times while the Dragon men have won four of the last five meetings with the UD men.

The Delaware women captured 11 first place finishes as Jill Fitzgerald had a hand in three victories and Julie Van Deusen and Sandy Stephens each won two events.

Fitzgerald captured the 50 freestyle (25.37) and 100 freestyle (54.68) and swam the first leg of the winning 400 medley relay (4:07.28), Stephens won both the 200 individual medley (2:10.90) and 200 butterfly (2:11.43), and Van Deusen remained unbeaten on the boards this season by sweeping the one-meter (261.00 points) and three-meter (271.95) diving events.

Also taking first place finishes for the Hens were Meghan Petry in the 500 freestyle (5:11.94), Kim Fields in the 200 backstroke (2:13.18), Chrissy Kapelewski in the 200 freestyle (1:58.60), and Sarah Peffer in the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.48). Joining Fitzgerald in the 400 medley relay were Krysta Wasiewski, Shannon Duggan, and Ashley Husich.

Stephens also placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.48), 400 medley relay (4:12.66), and 400 freestyle relay (3:43.13) while Fields was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:17.59).

On the men's side, Delaware picked up three first place finishes as Rick Dressel won the 200 butterfly (2:01.2), Kevin Weisser captured the 500 freestyle (4:53.91), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Alex Skacel, Colin Gibson, Dressel, and Kevin Kotowski won in 3:18.52.

Skacel, Dressel, and Weisser also led the Hens to a second place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:39.63) while Weisser added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:46.89), Tim Wasiewski had second place finishes in the 400 medley relay and 200 individual medley (2:01.59), Kotowski was second in the 100 freestyle (49.43), and Skacel was second in the 200 backstroke (2:00.14).

Both Delaware teams will return to action Nov. 23 for their home opener vs. Rider at 1 p.m. at Rawstrom Pool.
