Wasiewski Wins Two For Hens But Rams Win 25th Straight
WEST CHESTER, PA - Sophomore Meghan Petry and junior Julie Van Deusen each won two events for the University of Delaware women and Tim Wasiewski captured two first place finishes for the UD men, but it wasn't enough as host West Chester swept the Blue Hens in a non-league swimming and diving meet Saturday afternoon. The West Chester men (1-0) captured their 25th straight dual win with a 148-84 victory over the Blue Hen men (1-1) while the Ram women (1-0) upended Delaware (1-2) by a 129-112 score. For the Delaware men, Wasiewski, a junior from Lancaster, PA (Conestoga Valley HS), won both the 200 individual medley (2:01.67) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.32), and was second in the 400 medley relay (3:41.47). Also for the Hens, junior Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) won the 500 freestyle (4:52.93) and was third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.89) and 400 medley relay. Petry, a sophomore from New Providence, NJ (Villa Walsh), won both the 1,000 freestyle (10:39.51) and 500 freestyle (5:16.10) events and placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:13.48) while Van Deusen, a junior transfer from Bear, DE (Hill School/Syracuse) won both the one-meter (235.20 points) and three-meter (267.70 points) diving events. Also for the Blue Hens, sophomore Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) won the 200 breaststroke (2:26.81), swam a leg of the winning 400 medley relay (4:02.23), and was second in the 200 individual medley (2:12.66) while Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:59.45) and 500 freestyle (5:19.41) and swam a leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:43.86). For West Chester, Melissa DeBellis, Corey Dennis, and Megan Straehle each won two events for the women while Kyle Almoney and Matt Matys each won two events for the men. AGATE: West Chester Men def.
