Each Win Two Events But Hens
EASTON, PA -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a non-league meet at host Lafayette College Saturday afternoon at Ruef Natatorium. The Delaware women (6-5) upended the host Leopards 150-90 while the Lafayette men edged Delaware (3-6) by a score of 118-113. The Delaware women continued their dominance of Lafayette, downing the Leopards for the fourth straight year and for the 19th time in 20 all-time meetings. The Delaware men were edged by Lafayette for the second straight year after losing by only 12 points last season in Newark, DE. The Blue Hen women had three multiple event winners as sophomore Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ) captured the 500 and 1,000 freestyle while sophomore Jill Fitzgerald (Archbishop Wood/Warminster, PA) won the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Junior diver Julie Van Deusen (Hill School, Pa./Bear, DE) remained undefeated on the season as she won both the one meter and three meter diving events. Van Deusen, a transfer from Syracuse, is now 16-0 this season in diving competitions. In the men's meet, Delaware lost despite double wins from junior Lavar Larks (Mt. Pleasant/Wilmington, DE) and senior Bryan Kahner (Jericho/Jericho, NY). Kahner captured both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events while Larks swept the diving events, winning on both the one meter and three meter boards. Also winning for the Blue Hens was junior Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) in the 200 freestyle and junior Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA) in the 200 breaststroke.
