Wasiewski, Larks, and Skacel Win for the Hens in Loss to GMU

Bryan Kahner had three second place finishes

FAIRFAX, VA -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a Colonial Athletic Association meet with host George Mason University Saturday afternoon.

Junior diver Julie Van Deusen (Hill School, PA/Bear, DE) and sophomore Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ) each won two events as the Delaware women posted a 152-148 victory to improve to 2-2 on the season.

The Blue Hen men won three individual events but dropped a 189-111 verdict to the Patriots.

Petry captured both the 1,000 freestyle (10:36.09) and 200 butterfly (2:09.45) while Van Deusen swept the one and three-meter diving events for the fourth straight meet with point totals of 247.878 in one-meter and 255.52 points in the three-meter event.

Other Delaware winners were freshman Kristen Avioli (Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA) who won the 100 backstroke (1:01.31), senior Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) won the 100 freestyle (55.45), freshman Kim Fields (Severna Park/Severna Park, MD) won the 200 backstroke (2:12.18), and the 200 freestyle relay team of Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Newark, DE), Haus, Jill Fitzgerald (Archbishop Wood/Warminster, PA) and Andrea Rossi (Muhlenberg/Reading, PA) won in a time of 1:40.58. Haus also placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.21) while Petry was second in the 500 freestyle (5:13.07).

Also for the Hens, Erin Colbert (Newark/Newark, DE) was second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:52.65), Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.80), 200 breaststroke (2:26.92), and 200 individual medley (2:13.40), Rossi was second in the 100 freestyle (55.58), and Sara Stephens was second in the 100 butterfly (58.66).

Christy Anderson won three events for the Patriot women while Louise Middlemore captured two first place finishes.

The Delaware men earned three victories in the loss to George Mason. Junior Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) won the 200 freestyle (1:45.83), junior Lavar Larks (Mt. Pleasant/Wilmington, DE) captured the three-meter dive (250.80), and freshman Alex Skacel (Holy Cross/Moorestown, NJ) won the 200 butterfly (2:02.38). Weisser also placed second in the 100 freestyle (49.28).

Also for the UD men, Bryan Kahner (Jericho/Jericho, NY) was second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:00.22), 200 butterfly (2:03.44), and 500 freestyle (4:53.52), Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.11) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.16), and Rick Dressel (McKean/Wilmington, DE) was second in the 50 freestyle (22.42) and 100 butterfly (52.90).

For George Mason, Wes Ebanks won four events and PJ Clark won three.
