Blue Hens Sweep Dual Relay Meet in Florida

 

CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming teams enjoyed strong performances in relay dual meet action Wednesday afternoon as part of the team's annual trip to Florida.

The Delaware men (3-3) swept Davidson and Calvin (Mich.) College by scores of 132-96 and 132-92 respectively while the UD women (5-3) fell to the University of Tennessee (140-98) but defeated Davidson (98-82) and Calvin (98-60). Only relay events were held.

The Blue Hen men captured first place in eight of the 10 relay events, winning the 300 butterfly (2:44.08), 300 backstroke (2:51.38), 300 breaststroke (3:10.57), 800 freestyle (7:23.90), 500 freestyle (4:25.19), 400 medley relay (3:45.67), 1,500 freestyle (15:12.03), and 400 freestyle (3:23.85) relay events. The Blue Hens also placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:31.52 - .88 behind winner Calvin) and the 400 medley (3:51.77 - .27 behind winner Calvin).

In the women's meet, Delaware picked up nine second place finishes and one third place finish as Tennessee dominated the meet by winning all 10 events.

The Blue Hens were second in the 300 butterfly (3:02.19), 300 backstroke (3:05.21), 300 breaststroke (3:27.66), 800 freestyle (8:06.13), 400 medley (4:06.90), 200 freestyle (1:42.80), 1,500 freestyle (15:55.06), 400 medley (4:16.65), and 400 freestyle (3:45.41) relays. The Hens placed third in the 500 freestyle (4:58.20) behind Tennessee and Davidson.

Both Delaware teams will return to action January 12 when the Blue Hens host Colonial Athletic Association foes Towson and James Madison in a three-way dual at Rawstrom Natatorium.
