NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's soccer team had several good chances to score in the second half, but couldn't find the net in a 1-0 loss to William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium, the Blue Hens' final home game of the season.
The Tribe out-shot UD, 9-3, in the first half, but senior goalkeeper Jon Curry-Edwards (right) kept William & Mary off the board with six saves.
Midfielder Ryan Overdevest finally got a shot past Curry-Edwards in the 62nd minute, when he headed a Price Thomas cross into the upper-right corner of the goal to give the Tribe a 1-0 lead that it held until the final horn.
The Delaware offense came alive in the final few minutes, as senior forward Sobhan Tadjalli and sophomore midfielder Paul Danaher tested Tribe keeper Andrew McAdams from close range and freshman midfielder Darren Christie made a long run into the box but couldn't get off a shot.
Tadjalli led the Hens (3-12-2, 3-6-1 CAA) with five shots, while Danaher added four of his own. Curry-Edwards finished with seven saves in his first start of the season.
UD head coach Ian Hennessy was pleased with his team's second-half performance.
"I am happy that the seniors at least ended on a good half," said Hennessy, whose Hens honored their four seniors - Tadjalli, Curry-Edwards, midfielder Tal Blau, and defender Justin Romano - before the game. "We didn't show up in the first half, but we played well in the second and maybe in the end deserved a little more from the game."
The Tribe (9-7-3, 6-3-1 CAA) won their third of four matches and improved to 8-1-1 all-time against Delaware.
The Blue Hens return to action on Thursday, when they close out the season at Drexel. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
