NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of archrival Towson on Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium.

Midfielder Matt Beckman scored two second-half goals and added an assist for the Tigers (6-4-1, 3-1 CAA), who haven't lost to Delaware (1-9-1, 1-3 CAA) since 1997.

Towson forward Pat Healey put the Tigers on the board just 12:26 into the match, settling a pass at the right edge of the box and skidding a shot past Hen keeper Taylor Thames for his sixth goal of the season.

Beckman doubled the Towson lead 32 seconds into the second half, when he split two defenders and scorched the strings from 15 yards out. The junior added an insurance goal six minutes later to seal UD's fate.

Sophomore midfielder Paul Danaher (right) took two of the Blue Hens' six shots on the day, while Thames made six saves in the defeat. Towson out-shot Delaware, 14-6, but the Hens did manage six corner kicks to the Tigers' two.

Delaware, which was shut out for the eighth time this year, fell to 2-22-2 all-time versus Towson.

The Hens return to the field on Friday night, when they visit UNC-Wilmington for a key CAA battle.
