Geesaman, Connell Lead UD Tracksters at Colonial Relays

 

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware men's and women's outdoor track and field teams each placed 13th in the team standings at the Colonial Relays Saturday at the College of William & Mary.

Delaware athletes took two first place finishes as Dave Geesaman (Central Dauphin HS/Harrisburg, PA) won the men's 10,000 meters in 30:47.40 and Brandy Connell (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) won the women's hammer throw with a school record toss of 169-2.

Other top finishers for the UD men were Mike Chadwick's second place finish in the hammer (168-6), Steve Sinko's second place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:01.62), Tom Marando's third place finish in the shot put (51-11), and Sam Yarrington's third place finish in the hammer (168-2).

The Delaware 4 x 1,500 meter relay team of Steve Sinko, Joe Quigley, Kevin Danahy, and Mike DiGennaro placed seventh with a school record time of 16:12.84, smashing the former mark of 16:39.2 set in 1994.

For the Delaware women, the 4 x 1,500 meter relay team (19:23.35) and Aimee Alexander (4:57.79 in the 1,500 meters) both placed fifth while Sarah Johnson was sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:58.92) and Connell was eighth in the shot put (34-11).

Men: 1st Place: Dave Geesaman, 10,000m (30:47.40); 2nd Place - Mike Chadwick, hammer (168-6); Steve Sinko, 1,500m (4:01.62); 3rd - Tom Marando, shot put (51-11); Sam Yarrington, hammer (168-2); 7th - 4x 1,500m relay (16:12.84); Troy Bockius, 1,500m; 1,600m sprint relay (3:30.81); 9th - Mike DiGennaro, 3,000m steeplechase (9:28.8);

Women: 1st Place - Brandy Connell, hammer (169-2); 5th Place - 4 x 1,500m relay (19:23.35); Aimee Alexander, 1,500m (4:57.79); 6th Place - Sarah Johnson - 1,500m (4:58.92); 8th Place - Brandy Connell, shot put (34-11); 9th Place - 4 x 800m relay (9:25.10); 11th Place - Caron Marra, 5,000 meters (18:25.97).
