Marando Wins Shot
Put; Oliveri 2nd in Pole Vault at
St. John's
Invitational
JAMAICA, NY -- University of Delaware senior
Tom Marando won the shot put and sophomore Carol
Oliveri placed second in the pole vault to lead the Blue
Hen men's and women's outdoor track and field teams at the
St. John's University Twilight Invitational at DaSilva
Field.
Marando captured his third shot put title of the spring
as he won the event with a distance of 52-7 1/4.
Also for the Delaware men, Sam Yarrington placed
seventh in the hammer with a toss of 166-9. Brandon Jones
also competed in the 100 meters but did not advance to the
finals.
On the women's side, Oliveri was the Hens' top finisher,
placing second in the pole vault with a leap of 10-0. Also
for the Hens, Brandy Connell placed third in the
hammer (165-7), Janna Mattey was fourth in the pole
vault with a leap of 9-0 and Erin Belz was seventh
overall in the discus with a throw of 121-9.
