April 17, 2004 Hurdles Dixon, Holder Lead Hens to Fourth Place Team Finish RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman Mandy Stille (right) was the Blue Hens' lone individual champion as she captured the 100 meter hurdles and set three school records at the Colonial Athletic Association Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Sports Backer's Stadium. Stille, a freshman from Wilmington, DE (McKean), won the 100 meter hurdles by breaking her own school record with a time of 14.42, placed third in the 1,600 meter relay, fourth in the 400 meter hurdles, fourth in the 400 meter relay with a school record time of 47.17, and placed fifth in the triple jump with a school record distance of 38-9 3/4. By winning the 100 meter hurdles, she qualified for the NCAA Regionals May 28-29 at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. The Delaware men earned a fourth place team finish with 94 points behind a second place finish from Chris Dixon (Hempfield/Manheim, PA) in the 400 meter hurdles (54.03) and a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (14.78) and a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (54.55) from Jerome Holder (Woodbridge HS/Bridgeville, DE). The Delaware women placed sixth in the team standings for the second straight year. William & Mary claimed both the men's and women's team titles with the men edging runner-up Virginia Commonwealth by 24 points and the women edging George Mason by just one point. Stille was joined by Brittany Wright (Eastern/Voorhees, NJ), Kristen Frustillo (Cardinal O'Hara/Newtown, PA), and Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ) in the record breaking 400 meter relay, which broke the previous mark of 47.75 set in 1990. Smith later broke the school record in the 400 meter run with a fourth place time of 57.04 - breaking the UD mark of 57.30 set by Connie Pogue in 1990. Wright also placed fourth in the 100 meters (12.14) and seventh in the 200 meters (25.87), freshman Rachel Young (Sparta/Sparta, NJ) was fourth in the discus (118-6) and fifth in the shot put (40-11 1/4), and Frustillo was fourth in the 100 meters (12.20). The 1,600-meter relay team of Rachel Schultz (Caesar Rodney/Dover, PA, Stille, Daniella Price (Chichester/Boothwyn), and Wright placed third with a time of 3:58.16. Also for the Delaware men, Charlie Williams (Powhatan/Powhatan, VA) placed third in the 400 meters (48.92) and teamed with Dave Sherman (Neshaminy/Langhorne, PA), Holder, and Dixon to place third in the 1,600 meter relay (3:17.76), freshman Mike Zeberkiewicz (Salesianum/Newark, DE) was fifth in the 800 meters (1:56.10), Phil Smiley (McKean/Hocessin, DE) was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (55.78), Roger Brown (Albemarle/Charlottesville, VA) was seventh in the 100 meters (10.85), Mike Yost (Lake Forest/Felton, DE) placed sixth in the discus (135-5) and 10th in the shot put (43-10 3/4), and the 400 meter relay team of Sidney Haugabrook (Woodward/Atlanta, GA), Brown, Williams, and Rashaad Woodard (Bullis/Germantown, MD) was fifth in 42.49.
