April 16, 2004 Yost, Sadowsky Take Third Place as Hens Move into Fourth Place
RICHMOND, VA -- Mike Yost (hammer) and Mike Sadowsky (10,000 meters) each picked up a third place finish as the University of Delaware men moved into fourth place in the team standings after the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Richmond Sports Backer's Stadium. In the women's section, Elizabeth Russell placed fifth in the heptathlon and Jessica Urbonas (javelin), Rachel Young (hammer), and Reagan Hastings (pole vault) each placed eighth as Delaware moved into seventh place in the team standings. The second and final day of the championships will be held Saturday morning. All individual champions earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals to be held in May at the University of Florida. Defending champion William & Mary leads the men's team standings with 71.5 points followed by UNC Wilmington, host Virginia Commonwealth, Delaware, James Madison, George Mason, and Towson. Defending champion William & Mary also leads the women's team standings with 71 points followed by UNC Wilmington, George Mason, James Madison, Towson, VCU, and Delaware. The Delaware men had 13 top 10 finishes as Yost was third in the hammer (175-4), Sadowsky was third in the 10,000 meters (31:19.99), Patrick Riley was fourth in both the 5,000 meters (14:48.79) and 10,000 meters (31:21.62), Scott Armstrong was sixth in the javelin (170-4), Patrick Wilcox was seventh in the 5,000 meters (15:01.19), Tyler Mayforth was seventh in the 10,000 meters (32:07.50), Dennis Spence was eighth in the long jump (21-8), and Brett McMonagle was eighth in the pole vault (12-11 1/2). In the women's section, Russell earned a fifth place finish by earning 2,339 points in the heptathlon, Urbonas was eighth in the javelin (118-0) and 12th in the hammer (110-6), Young was eighth in the hammer (129-9), Hastings was eighth in the pole vault (9-4 1/4), and Lauren Palmer was ninth in the hammer (117-5).
