DiNozzi Ties for
24th Place in Pole Vault
FAIRFAX, VA - University of
Delaware senior pole vaulter Jon DiNozzi failed to
reach the opening height and was eliminated from contention
at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Regional
meet Saturday morning at George Mason University.
DiNozzi, a senior from Middletown, DE
(Fox Lane, NY High School), failed on three attempts at
15-feet, 6-inches and was eliminated. He was one of 13
vaulters who failed to make the minimum height and thus
finished tied for 24th place overall.
The University of Florida's Brian Dacunha
won the event with a leap of 16-feet, 9-inches while
Florida's Paul Condron and Florida State's Jeff Atkinson
tied for second with leaps of 16-feet, 6-inches. The top
five finishes advance to the NCAA Championships to be held
June 11-14 at Sacramento (CA) State University.
DiNozzi closed out his career as one of
the top pole vaulters in school history. He won the America
East outdoor title in 2001, was runner-up for the Colonial
Athletic Association title outdoors in 2002, and captured
the CAA outdoor title this spring. He earned All-East honors
twice in his career for top eight finishes at the IC4A
regionals and holds Delaware school records both indoors
(16-2 3/4) and outdoors (16-0).
The event was the final competition of
the 2002-2003 athletic season for all University of Delaware
sports. Blue Hen athletics will continue action Aug. 29 when
the UD volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer teams
all begin their 2003 seasons.
