RICHMOND, VA -- The University of Delaware men's track and field team placed second overall and the Blue Hen women placed sixth at the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Sports Backers Stadium.

Jon DiNozzi won his second career league pole vault title

Delaware athletes picked up two individual titles as senior Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane, NY/Middletown, NY) won the men's pole vault with a leap of 15-9 and freshman Lissy Dean (Bohemia Manor/Warwick, MD) captured the women's triple jump with a distance of 37-6 3/4. Both became the first Blue Hen athletes to capture CAA field event titles in school history.

William & Mary captured both teams titles as the men totalled 237 points to outdistance Delaware with 147.5. George Mason was third followed by UNC Wilmington, James Madison, Towson, and Virginia Commonwealth. Delaware's finish was its highest at a conference meet since winning the 2000 America East title.

The William & Mary women posted 241.5 points to down runner-up George Mason with 175 points. Virginia Commonwealth was third followed by UNC Wilmington, James Madison, Delaware, and Towson. The Blue Hen women earned a sixth place finish for the fourth time in the last five seasons at the conference meet.

DiNozzi, who was second in the pole vault last season at the CAA meet, won his second career pole vault title as he captured the America East outdoor title during the 2001 season.

Delaware's Sidney Haugabrook (Woodward/Atlanta, GA) took home two second place finishes and one third as he was second in the 100 meters in 10.83, teamed with Jerome Holder (Woodbridge/Bridgeville, DE), Nate Irvin (Sussex Central/Millsboro, DE), and Roger Brown (Albemarle/Charlottesville, VA) for a second place finish in the 400 meter relay (41.93), and tied Brown for third place in the 200 meters with a time of 22.31.

Also placing second for the Hens were Mike Sadowsky (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) in the 10,000 meters (31:21.6), Shawn Watkins (Indian River/Frankford, DE) in the javelin (175-5), Brandon Nesbitt (Ewing/Trenton, NJ) in the 400 meter hurdles (54.81), and Holder (Woodbridge/Bridgeville, DE) in the 110 meter hurdles (14.83).

The Blue Hens had several other athletes with multiple top 10 finishes. Brown was third in 200 meters (22.31), freshman Nick Riordan (Skaneateles/Skaneateles, NY) was third in the long jump (21-4) and sixth in the triple jump (41-3 1/4), Mike Yost (Lake Forest/Felton, DE) was third in the discus (147-8), third in the hammer (167-3), and ninth in the shot put (42-6 3/4), Irvin was fourth in the 100 meters (11.11), John Morgan (San Clemente/Ladera Ranch, CA) was fourth in the 800 meters (1:54.07) and fourth in the 1,600 meter relay (3:20.32), and Phil Smiley (McKean/Hockessin, DE) was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (55.46) and fourth in the 1,600 meter relay.

Also for the Hens, Nesbitt was fourth in the 1,600 meter relay, Jay Pava (Monmouth Regional/Eatontown, NJ) was fourth in the 1,600 meter relay and sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (55.68), Pat Boettcher (William Penn/New Castle, DE) was fourth in the 1,600 meter relay and sixth in the 800 meters (1:54.97), Dennis Spence (Caesar Rodney/Magnolia, DE) was fifth in the long jump (20-9), eighth in the 200 meters (23.19), and ninth in the 100 meters (11.47), and Holder was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (56.01).

Dean was the UD women's top finisher with her winning leap of 37-6 3/4 the second best in school history. She also placed 10th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.02).

Also for the Hens, Christine Kowalchuk (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg, NJ) was second in the javelin (121-1) for the second straight year while Daniella Price (Chichester/Boothwyn, PA) was third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.04), fourth in the 400 meter relay, and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.22) and 1,600 meter relay (4:00.99)

The UD women also had several athletes post multiple top 10 finishes. Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) placed fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:38.64), fifth in the 1,600 meter relay, and ninth in the 800 meters (2:18.22), Kristen Frustillo (Cardinal O'Hara/Newtown Square, PA) was fourth in the 400 meter relay (48.61), fifth in the 1,600 meter relay, and eighth in the 100 meters (12.37), and Elizabeth Russell (Red Bank Regional/Little Silver, NJ) was fourth in the 400 meter relay and fourth in the heptathlon (3,654).

Also, Kate Klim (Barnstable/Cummaquid, MA) was fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:17.41) and eighth in the 5,000 meters (18:25.33), Jessica Urbonas (Rockville/Vernon, CT) was fifth in the javelin (110-4), seventh in the discus (115-7), and 10th in the shot put (33-9 1/4), and Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ) was ninth in the 400 meters (59.27) and 400 meter hurdles (1:09.40).
