Riley Places 12th,
Goodhart 15th to Pace UD Men
PRINCETON, NJ -- University of
Delaware outdoor track and field athletes posted four top 16
finishes at the ECAC and IC4A Outdoor Track and Field
Championships this past weekend at Princeton University's
Weaver Stadium.
In the men's IC4A regionals, junior
Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) placed 12th in the
10,000 meters and senior Mike Goodhart
(Warwick/Lititz, PA) was 15th in the hammer throw.
In the women's ECAC regionals, senior
Aimee Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY) placed 14th
in the 5,000 meters and junior Liesje Cardillo
(Bishop Eustace/Marlton, NJ) was 16th in the long
jump.
Also, Delaware junior Jon DiNozzi
(Fox Lane, NY/Middletown, DE) competed in the men's pole
vault but did not reach the minimum height of 15-5 in three
jumps. For the UD women, junior Jennie Chiller
(Sharon/Sharon, MA) qualified in the hammer but did not
compete and senior Gena Carapezza (Notre Dame/Ewing,
NJ) qualified in the discus but did not compete.
Riley, the Colonial Athletic Association
10,000 meter champion earlier this spring, was Delaware's
highest finisher at the IC4A championships, running to a
time of 31:33.99 in the 10,000 meters. Goodhart, who was
honored last week's as Delaware's ECAC Medal of Merit Award
winner as the UD senior letterwinner with the highest grade
point index (3.9), placed 15th in the hammer with a toss of
175-5.
On the women's side, Alexander, the CAA
5,000 meter champion, was Delaware's top finisher at the
ECAC meet by placing 14th with a time of 17:02.37 in the
5,000 meters this past weekend. She also qualified for the
meet in the 3,000 meters but did not compete. Cardillo
placed 16th in the long jump with a leap of 17-2.
Georgetown won its second straight team
title in the 126th annual IC4A meet with 87 points,
outdistancing runner-up East Carolina (52). George Mason was
third followed by Connecticut and Seton Hall. Delaware had
no team points and thus had no team standing.
In the women's 19th annual ECAC
championships, Seton Hall won the team title with a score of
82 points, edging 2001 winner Georgetown with 74. Virginia
was third with 59 points followed by West Virginia and
Pittsburgh. Delaware had no team points and thus had no team
standing.
The meet ended the 2002 season for the
Blue Hen men's and women's outdoor track and field
teams.
