PRINCETON, NJ -
University of Delaware track and field athletes Ben
Thuma and Jon DiNozzi each earned All-East
honors with top 10 finishes at the IC4A Outdoor Track and
Field Championships Saturday at Princeton
Universitys William Weaver Stadium.
DiNozzi, a sophomore from Middletown,
DE (Fox Lane HS/Bedford, NY), earned All-East honors with
a seventh place finish in the pole vault while Thuma, a
sophomore from Harrisburg, PA (Northern York), earned
All-East honors with an eighth place finsh in the discus
throw.
Also for Delaware, senior Sam
Yarrington (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, PA) placed 19th
in the hammer throw with a toss of 171-10. Thomas Freeman
of Manhattan won the event with throw of 224-3).
Yarrington placed ninth in the event in last season and
20th in 1999.
DiNozzi, a first-year transfer from
George Mason, leaped to a height of 15-9 to tie for
seventh place. Seth Benson of Duke won the event with a
height of 16-8 3/4. DiNozzi, who holds the UD indoor and
outdoor records in the pole vault, won the America East
pole vault title two weeks ago and earned All-East honors
with a sixth place finish at the IC4A indoor meet in
March.
Thuma, who placed second in the discus
at the America East championships, threw the discus 155-8
to place eighth overall. Corey Pusey of Connecticut won
the event with a toss of 177-7.
The Delaware women had just one
participant at the ECAC Championships also held at
Princeton. Senior Carol Oliveri (St. Rose/Brick,
NJ) competed in the pole vault but failed at three
attempts at the minimum height.
She had placed 11th in the event in
1999 but did not compete last year. Indoors, she placed
17th at this years ECAC championships.
