Rapp, Women’s 4 x 200 Meter Relay Lead Way for Delaware in Second Day Action at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- Senior Conrad Rapp (at right) placed second in the men’s Eastern pole vault competition and the women’s 4 x 200 meter relay team set a school record to highlight University of Delaware performances during the second day of the 114th annual Penn Relays Friday at Franklin Field.

The third and final day of the prestigious meet will take place Saturday. Delaware’s last competitor at the meet will be the men’s 4 x 800 meter relay squad.

Rapp matched a career-best to place second in the pole vault with a leap of 15-feet, 9-inches. Albany’s Michael Dempsey won the event with the same height but had few misses. Jake Cohen also competed for the Blue Hens in the event but did not reach the minimum height.

The Delaware women competed in just one race during Friday’s action as the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Asha Quant, Kayla Hennessy, Kristi Cox, and Cristine Marquez placed fourth in their heat and 21st overall with a school record time of 1:40.05. The team broke the school record of 1:40.99 set by Michelle Gomes, Paula Green, Brittany Wright, and Quant in 2006. Virginia won the heat with a time of 1:36.41.

Also for the Delaware men, Brandon Swartout placed 16th in the Eastern long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 2 1/4 inches and four Blue Hen relay teams competed.

The Delaware distance medley relay team of Steve Vincent, Ross Shober, Corey Wall, and Nate Twer placed fourth in its heat and 26th overall with a time of 10:28.05. The University of Texas won the race with a time of 9:32.89.

The Blue Hen 4 x 200 meter relay team of Shober, Kyle Nagy, Jeremy Simkins, and Nick Morrisey placed seventh in its heat with a time of 1:28.71. The University of Florida won the heat in a time of 1:22.80.

Delaware’s 4 x 100 meter relay team of Shober, Nagy, Simkins, and Morrisey places seventh in its heat and 61st overall with a time of 43.37. Tennessee won the heat in a time of 39.53.

In the Wetzler 4 x 400 meter relay, the Delaware group of Morrisey, Will Jurkowski, Alex Malikian, and Simkins placed 10th in its heat with a time of 3:22.64. Bucknell won the race with a time of 3:15.17.
