PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams opened action at the 114th annual Penn Relays Thursday by posting two top 10 finishes in field events at Franklin Field.
Senior Asha Quant was the top Delaware finisher on the day as she placed seventh overall in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 1/2 inches. Also posting a top 10 finish for the Blue Hens was junior Laura Chirico, who finished eighth in the pole vault with jump of 11-feet, 11 1/4 inches.
The lone competitor for the Delaware men was senior Brad Dodson (at right), who finished 27th overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:31.28.
Also for the UD women, junior Kelli McDonald was 12th in the pole vault (11-5 1/4), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of sophomore Cristine Marquez, Quant, freshman Kayla Hennessy, and freshman Kristi Cox was fourth in its heat and 34th overall with a time of 3:47.70, and the 4 x 100 meter foursome of Quant, Hennessy, Cox, and Marquez placed sixth in its heat and 50th overall in a time of 48.00.
Delaware will continue action at the Penn Relays Friday with the women competing in the 4 x 200 meter relay and the men competing in the 4 x 100 meter relay, 4 x 200 meter relay, 4 x 400 meter relay, and freshman distance medley relay. Also competing for the UD men are pole vaulters Conrad Rapp and Jake Cohen.
