ROCK HILL, SC -- Cristine Marquez and Annie Kowtoniuk each posted second place finishes to lead the University of Delaware women and Conrad Rapp (at right) led the UD men with a sixth place finish in the pole vault to highlight Blue Hen performances at the ASICS/Winthrop Outdoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Belk Track Complex.
Delaware athletes posted 18 top 10 finish on the third and final day of the meet, which included 30 teams from 16 different schools.
Marquez placed second in the finals of the 400 meters and set a school record in the event for the second straight day as she ran to a time of 55.74, breaking her mark of 56.34 set Friday when she placed first in the preliminaries. Kowtoniuk was also second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:21.16 and Amanda Marshall threw a career best 139-5 in the discus to place fourth and post her third top six finish of the meet.
Also for the Delaware women, Julianne Twomey was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (13:04.99), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alexi Capsouras, Daniella Price, Marquez, and Brittany Wright was fourth in 3:56.11, Leslie Wason was fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (13:13.97), Christina Antonopoulos was fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:53.01) and 14th in the 800 meters (2:21.35).
Also, Asha Quant was fifth in the 200 meters (25.43), eighth in the 100 meters (12.67), and teamed with Price, Liz Harvin, and Brittany Wright to place fifth in the 4 x 100 meter relay (48.62), Capsouras was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.27), Yianna Antonopoulos was seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:53.01), and Kellyn Wright was eighth in the 1,500 meters (4:53.45) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:20.19).
Rapp was the top finisher for the UD men as he placed sixth in the pole vault with a leap of 14-5 1/2. Also for the Hens, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Chris Dixon, Chris Johnson, Nick Morrissey, and M.J. Rawls was seventh (43.75), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Dixon, Steven Jackson, Johnson, and Morrissey was seventh (3:26.04), and Matt Arbaugh was eighth in the pole vault (13-11 3/4).
