RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware outdoor track and field runners Paula Green and Charlie Williams have been honored as the Colonial Athletic Association Track Athletes of the Week for the period ending April 16.
The two were among four student-athletes honored with the weekly CAA awards. Green was named the CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, Williams was named the CAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Ryan McCoy of George Mason was named CAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, and James Madison’s Brittany Yates was named CAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Delaware has now had three student-athletes honored as CAA Track and Field Athletes of the Week this season as men’s distance runner Sam MacKenzie earned the men’s track award back on March 27.
Green and Williams combined to help Delaware finish third in both the men’s and women’s team standings at the Rider Invitational Saturday at Lawrenceville, NJ.
Green, a sophomore from Milford, DE (Hodgson Vo-Tech High School), had a hand in three first place finishes as she won the 100 meters in a time of 12.33 seconds, captured the 200 meter race with a clocking of 25.62, and teamed to win the 4 x 100 meter relay in a time of 48.15. That time qualified the 4 x 100 meter relay team for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships May 11-14 at Princeton University.
Williams, a senior from Powhatan, VA (Powhatan High School), placed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.98 at Rider and joined the 4 x 400 meter relay squad for a second place finish in a time of 3:27.05. His top time this season in the 400 meter dash of 48.96 currently ranks fifth among all CAA competitors this spring.
The University of Delaware men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will compete at the CAA Championships this Friday and Saturday at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
