RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware graduate student Sam MacKenzie (right) has been named the first weekly Colonial Athletic Association Male Track Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 27.
MacKenzie, a graduate student in the College of Health Sciences at Delaware, was the top Blue Hen finisher at the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State Saturday, placing third overall in the 1,500 meter run in a time of 3:50.77.
His time of 3:50.77 was the second fastest posted in Delaware history, trailing only the school record mark of 3:49.33 by Rob Rainey in 1987. MacKenzie did not compete during the UD indoor track and field season but competed for the UD cross country team this past fall and placed 24th at the CAA Championships. He will compete for the Blue Hens at the Winthrop (SC) Invitational this weekend.
A native of Groton, NY, MacKenzie attended Groton Central High School and earned his degree from Cornell University last May.
Also honored by the CAA for their performances during the past week were CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Natasha O’Connor of Georgia State, CAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week Brenna Blevins of William & Mary, and CAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Alex Heacock of William & Mary.
