Delaware Track and Field Women Take Second, Men Take Third at Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, PA -- The University of Delaware women took second place and the men took third at the 2006 Lehigh Games held at the track on the Goodman Campus on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hen women took second place out of seven teams with 126.50 points, while Kutztown University took the team championship with 154.50 points. Lafayette took third place (125), followed by Lehigh (107.05), Monmouth (88), Muhlenberg (58.50), and Moravian (14).

Delaware was led by Rachel Young who placed first in the shot put with a toss of 42-02, second in the discus with a throw of 127-01, and fourth in the hammer with a heave of 137-07. Casey Bennett won the pole vault with a jump of 12-05.5 and Paula Green took first in the 100 meter run with a second-best school record time of 12.10. The 4x400 meter “B” team also had a first place finish. Asha Quant finished second in the long jump with a mark of 17-04 and Lauren Stephenson took second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:32.49.

The Blue Hen men took third place out of eight teams with 101 points, while Lehigh (152.50) and Kutztown (150) took the top two spots. Monmouth took fourth place (93.50), followed by Muhlenberg (82), Lafayette (79), Moravian (31), and the Lehigh Track Club (2).

Delaware men were led by Andy Lynch who had a first place finish in the shot put with a toss of 48-09 and a second place finish in the discus with a throw of 146-07. Kyle Casella finished first in the hammer with a throw of 175-06 and Kyle Schmid also took first in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:29.78.

Delaware will host the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, May 6 at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
