PRINCETON, NJ -- Junior Jared Wasser (at right) was the University of Delaware’s top finisher at the IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championship as he placed seventh overall in the shot put during the final day of the meet Sunday afternoon at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium.
Blue Hen junior Rachel Young also competed on Sunday for Delaware and placed 16th in the shot put at the ECAC Championships also at Princeton University.
Wasser, a junior from North Potomac, MD (Wootton High School) and a second-year transfer from Robert Morris University, placed seventh overall in the shot put to earn All East honors with a throw of 52-feet, 5 1/2 inches.
He became the first Delaware men’s outdoor track and field performer to earn All-East honors since Jon DiNozzi placed sixth in the pole vault during the 2003 season.
Young, a junior from Sparta, NJ (Sparta HS), also competed Sunday and finished 16th in the shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 3/4 inches.
The Delaware men placed 51st overall in the team standings with two points. George Mason won the team title with 59 points followed by Cornell, Pennsylvania, Rutgers, and Iona.
The Delaware women did not earn any points and tied for 47th place overall in the team standings. Pittsburgh won the team title with 87 points followed by Virginia, Cornell, Syracuse, and Duke.
The Delaware men’s and women’s teams will continue action Monday night at the Tuppeny Twilight Meet at Villanova (PA) University.
