Chris Dixon Named to USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team

METAIRIE, LA -- University of Delaware men’s track and field standout Chris Dixon has been selected to the 2006 NCAA Division I United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Dixon (at right), a hurdler and sprinter from Manheim, PA (Hempfield High School), was among 184 student-athletes honored. To be eligible, athletes must carry a 3.25 or better grade point index and have met NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standards in his event. A total of 23 Division I men’s teams with cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better were also honored.

University of Arkansas triple jumper Jaanus Uudmae, who was named the 2006 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Florida State shot putter Garrett Johnson, who won both the 2006 NCAA indoor and outdoor titles, highlighted those individuals honored.

Dixon, who will be a senior at the University of Delaware this fall and will compete in his final season for the Blue Hens, captured the Colonial Athletic Association outdoor 400 meter hurdles title in April and competed at the NCAA Regionals in May, finishing 30th in the event. He has collected eight career top five finishes at the CAA championships in the hurdles, sprints, and relay events and ranks No. 3 all-time at Delaware in both the indoor 60 meter hurdles (8.72) and outdoor 400 meter hurdles (52.73).

A Dean’s List student and CoSIDA Academic All-American candidate, Dixon has been named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll four times during his career and has earned the UD Certificate of Distinction. He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has volunteered in his community with the Landisville (PA) Church of God, Landisville Elementary School, and the Crispus Attucks Homeless Shelter. He carries a 3.27 grade point average as a computer engineering major.

This past spring he was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar as selected by Diverse Issues in Higher Education Magazine for the second straight year. The annual program which recognizes undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.
