GREENSBORO, NC -- University of Delaware junior Chris Dixon (at right) placed 30th overall in the preliminaries of the 400 meter intermediate hurdles at the NCAA East Regional Track and Field meet Friday evening at North Carolina A& T University.
Dixon, a junior from Manheim, PA (Hempfield High School), ran to a time of 54.42 to place fifth in his heat and 30th overall in the event. He was not one of the top six to advance to Saturday’s finals. He qualified for the meet after winning the Colonial Athletic Association title back in April.
The event was the final competition for University of Delaware athletics for the 2005-06 season.
Dixon ran in the fifth of six heats on the day and placed fifth behind winner Justin Gaymon of Georgia, who finished with a time of 50.91. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Ronnie Beard was second in a time of 51.76 followed by Hasani Hampton of Binghamton (52.91), and Keelan Knox of Georgia (53.05).
Jason Richardson of South Carolina had the overall top time with a clocking of 50.20. Teammate Thomas Hilliard was second in 50.62 followed by Bryan Steele of Long Island (50.67), Terry Thornton of Hampton (50.79), Gaymon, and Florida State’s Elliott Wood (50.97).
Dixon’s career best in the event is 52.73, which ranks No. 3 all-time at Delaware. He also holds the UD indoor records in the 500 meters (1:04.69) and 1,600 meter relay (3:17.04).
