DiGennaro Captures
1,500 Meter Race to Lead Blue
Hens
TOWSON, MD Four University of Delaware
track and field athletes competed at the Towson University
Open Meet Saturday at Minnegan Stadium.
Highlighting the Blue Hen efforts was senior Mike
DiGennaro (Hamilton-Wenham/Essex, MA) who captured the
mens 1,500-meter race in a time of 3:55.7. DiGennaro,
the America East champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase
and 5,000 meters, will compete at the IC4A championships
next weekend at Princeton.
Also for the Delaware men, senior Robb Munro
(Sidney Central/Sidney, NY) was fourth in the 1,500 meters
in a time of 4:00.3 and freshman Ben Thuma (Northern
York/Harrisburg, PA) was second in the discus throw with a
toss of 45.06 meters. UMBCs Balvin Brown won the event
with a toss of 45.84 meters. Thuma won the America East
discus title last week.
The Blue Hens had just one womens competitor as
freshman Melissa Calvanico (Tottenville/Staten
Island, NY) placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of
120-8. Towsons Elisa Jones won the event with a throw
of 145-4 ½.
The Delaware women will compete at the ECAC Championships
at Princeton.
