Brandon Webster, a former University of Delaware men’s soccer and lacrosse player and most recently an assistant lacrosse coach at Cazenovia College, was named an assistant coach for the Blue Hens men’s lacrosse program in December, 2006.
Webster, 35, a native of Syracuse, NY (Jamesville-DeWitt High School), is part of a staff that includes head coach Bob Shillinglaw, associate head coach Greg Carroll, and assistant coach Chris Collins.
Webster played a big role in helping the Blue Hens post the finest season in school history in 2007. The Blue Hens went 13-6 overall, captured the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history. Delaware stormed past defending national champion and No. 2 seed Virginia by a 14-8 score in the first round, defeated No. 13 ranked UMBC 10-6 in the quarterfinals at Navy, and trailed eventual national champion Johns Hopkins 3-2 late in the third quarter before falling to the Blue Jays 8-3 in the national semifinals before a record crowd of 52,004 fans at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium.
A 1994 Delaware graduate in criminal justice and psychology, Webster earned letters in both lacrosse and soccer for the Blue Hens. He was a four-year member of the lacrosse team under Shillinglaw as a midfielder and played in 25 career games with eight goals and five assists.
During his four seasons, the Blue Hens posted a combined record of 15-1 in North Atlantic Conference play and captured consecutive NAC team titles in 1992, 1993, and 1994. Delaware teams were ranked in the national Top 20 all four seasons. He was the team’s 10th leading scorer in 1994 with five goals and five assists. Webster also played in 16 games with one start as a forward for the UD men’s soccer team in 1990.
He has enjoyed outstanding coaching success as an assistant at the high school, junior college, and college level, with five of his six teams posting winning records.
Webster began his coaching career at the college level, serving as defensive coordinator for the University of Arizona Club Team that posted a record of 15-6. He also coached in the West Coast Club All-Star Game. He returned to Delaware and the high school level in 2003 and served as defensive coordinator for the Tatnall School, which posted a perfect 18-0 record and won the state title. Among the players on that team was current Blue Hen All-CAA attackman Cam Howard.
Following one season at Tatnall, Webster moved back to the college level and spent two seasons at National Junior College power Herkimer (NY) Junior College. He served as an offensive assistant in 2004 and led the team to a 16-3 mark and in 2005 was promoted to offensive coordinator and led the squad to a 17-2 mark and the National Junior College national title. The 2005 squad included former Blue Hen standout Scott Barnard as an assistant coach and current UD attackman Adam Zuder-Havens as one of its top players. Last season, Webster served as offensive coordinator at NCAA Division III Cazenovia (NY) College.
While at Jamesville-DeWitt, Webster received All-State honors as a soccer player and was the league’s leading scorer for the lacrosse team that qualified for the state tournament in 1990. He also lettered in swimming and was part of the 1986 bronze medal squad at the Empire State Games.
A member of US Lacrosse and the United States of America Triathlon (USAT), Webster is active in triathlon races during the summer. He is single and resides in Newark. He is currently a teacher at the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, DE.
