Jason Motta, 27, will begin the second year of his third stint with the UD men's lacrosse coaching staff in 2007. He also served as an assistant on the staff in 2003 and for part of the 2005 season.

A four-year letterwinner, he appeared in 62 career games and collected 39 goals and 30 assists for 69 points and while recording 302 groundballs and winning 384 faceoffs (48 percent). He had four goals and six assists and led the team with 100 groundballs as a freshman in 1998, had nine goals and seven assists to go with 73 groundballs as a sophomore in 1999 when the Hens advanced to the NCAA Tournament, added 15 goals and eight assists with 51 groundballs in 2000, and earned first team All-America East honors in 2001 when he served as team co-captain and had 11 goals, nine assists, and a team-high 78 groundballs.

He has continued his playing career as a member of the MAB Paints in the Philadelphia Club Team League and in December, 2005, was drafted by the Philadelphia Barrage in the 12th round of the Major League Lacrosse draft.

Motta earned his degree in physical education with a minor in coaching with honors from the University of Delaware in 2001. He taught one year at Claymont (DE) Elementary School before taking his current position as a health and physical education teacher and middle school boy’s basketball coach at The Independence School in Newark, DE where he has served since 2002. He has also been active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes since he was a student-athlete at Delaware and has remained on their staff as a camp instructor and elite team coach.

Motta and his wife, Christine (Koren), who was a starting point guard for the UD women’s basketball team in 1999-2000, reside in Newark, DE.
