_lg.jpg) BALTIMORE, MD -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse squad, coming off a 12-6 win over Marist last Saturday, improved to No. 12 in two Top 20 polls and debuted at No. 7 in another announced Monday.
The Blue Hens improved to two spots to No. 12 in the first regular season United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, one spot to No. 13 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media Top 20 poll, and was at No. 7 in the first LAXNews Top 20 poll.
Delaware, which got five goals and three assists from sophomore Curtis Dickson and two goals from Cam Howard (at right) in the victory over Marist to improve to 3-0 for the third straight season, will continue action this Saturday when the Hens travel to No. 18 Rutgers for a 1 p.m. start. Rutgers (1-0) defeated UMBC 13-4 in its season opener Saturday. Delaware defeated UMBC 15-7 on Feb. 16 in Florida.
In the official USILA poll, Delaware was at No. 12 with 111 points, moving up two spots from being picked No. 14 in the pre-season poll. John Hopkins remained in the top spot with eight first place votes and 253 points while Duke was second with five first place votes and 245 points. Maryland and Virginia were tied at No. 3 followed by Cornell, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Syracuse, Princeton, and Navy in the top 10. Georgetown was at No. 11 followed by Delaware, Albany, Massachusetts, Loyola, Denver, Drexel, Rutgers, Bucknell, and Towson. Ohio State, Holy Cross, Siena, Brown, Hofstra, Army, Stony Brook, UMBC, Dartmouth, and Colgate also earned votes.
Johns Hopkins remained at No. 1 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll with 15 first place votes and 338 points, outdistancing No. 2 Duke with two first place votes and 324 points. Virginia was at No. 3 followed by Maryland, Princeton, Cornell, Syracuse, North Carolina, Georgetown, and Notre Dame in the top 10. Navy as at No. 11 followed by Delaware, Albany, Loyola, Drexel, Denver, Massachusetts, Towson, Bucknell, and Ohio State. Army, Rutgers, Hofstra, Dartmouth, Stony Brook, Penn State, UMBC, Colgate, Brown, and Canisius also received votes.
In the LAXNews poll, Johns Hopkins was at No.1 followed by Duke, Maryland, Cornell, Virginia, Princeton, Delaware, Georgetown, North Carolina, and Massachusetts in the top 10. Notre Dame as at No. 11 followed by Navy, Albany, Syracuse, Loyola, Drexel, Denver, Brown, Bucknell, and Towson.
