University of Delaware Men’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 17 in USILA Poll; Travel to Unranked Towson this Saturday

BALTIMORE -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team, which split its two games last week, dropped in each of the three national top 20 polls announced Monday.

The Hens, who downed Lehigh 9-2 on Tuesday before falling to red-hot Brown 9-6 on Saturday, dropped three spots to No. 17 in the United States Intercollegiate Association Top 20 poll, four spots to No. 18 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll, and eight spots to No. 20 on the Laxnews.com rankings.

Delaware will continue action this week when the Blue Hens (7-3, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) travel to CAA rival Towson (2-5, 1-1 CAA) for a 12 noon game at Johnny Unitas Stadium. The game will be televised live on WMAR TV in Baltimore and on ESPNU.

Delaware has now appeared in the USILA poll 20 straight weeks since the May 1, 2006 poll.

Sophomore Curtis Dickson (at right) is the Blue Hens' leading scorer with 31 goals.

Syracuse (7-1) took over the top spot in the USILA poll with eight first place votes and 215 points while Duke (10-1) was second with three first place votes and 203 points. Maryland (7-2) was third followed by Virginia (9-1), Georgetown (5-2), North Carolina (7-2), Cornell (7-1), Notre Dame (7-1), Navy (8-2), and Drexel (7-2) in the top 10. Johns Hopkins (3-4) was at No. 11 followed by UMBC (5-3), Bucknell (7-2), Army (7-2), Princeton (4-3), Brown (6-2), Delaware (7-3), Ohio State (5-3), Denver (5-4), and Hofstra (3-4). Loyola, Albany, Siena, Penn, and Stony Brook also received votes.

Syracuse also took over the top spot in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll with nine first place votes and 347 points. Duke was second with eight first place votes and 342 points and Maryland was third with one first place vote and 319 points. No. 4 Virginia, Georgetown, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Cornell, Navy, and Johns Hopkins rounded out the top 10. Army was at No. 11 followed by UMBC, Drexel, Princeton, Bucknell, Brown, Ohio State, Delaware, Hofstra, and Loyola. Also receiving votes were Denver, Albany, Penn, Stony Brook, Canisius, Towson, and Providence.

In the Laxnews.com poll, Syracuse took over the No. 1 spot followed by Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Georgetown, North Carolina, Cornell, Notre Dame, Navy, and Johns Hopkins in the top 10. Drexel was at No. 11 followed by Princeton, Bucknell, Hofstra, Loyola, UMBC, Ohio State, Army, Brown, and Delaware.
