RICHMOND, VA -- For the second straight week, University of Delaware sophomore Curtis Dickson has been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as its men’s lacrosse Player of the Week.
Dickson, an attackman from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (Riverside High School), made it back-to-back weekly honors as he led No. 12 ranked Delaware to a 12-6 victory over Marist Saturday at Rullo Stadium in the Hens’ home opener. He had a hand in eight of the team’s 12 goals.
A member of the CAA All-Rookie team a year ago, Dickson scored five goals for the second straight game to match a career high and also dished out three assists for a career-high eight-point day. His 14 shots were just five shy of the school single game record and he also recorded five groundballs and two caused turnovers. He scored four of his goals in the first half to help stake the Blue Hens (3-0) to leads of 7-0 and 9-3 in the first half.
Dickson, who scored five goals in a 15-7 win over UMBC Feb. 16, is the first Delaware player to score five or more goals in consecutive games since Anthony DiMarzo opened the 1995 season by scoring five goals each vs. Drexel and Yale. In three games this season, Dickson leads the CAA in scoring with 12 goals and six assists for 18 points.
In addition to Dickson, the CAA also honored Drexel freshman midfielder Kevin Stockel as Rookie of the Week. Stockel had a goal and an assist as the Dragons rallied to down Pennsylvania 9-8 on Saturday. His man-up goal with 6:29 left tied the game at 8-8.
Delaware will continue action this Saturday when the Blue Hens travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on No. 18 Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights (1-0) opened their season with a 13-4 win over UMBC Saturday.
