RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware sophomore attackman Curtis Dickson, who has led the No. 14 ranked Blue Hens to a 2-0 record in the early going of the 2008 season, has been named the first Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Dickson (at right), a sophomore from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (Riverside High School), has led the Blue Hens to victories of 18-10 over Saint Joseph’s in the season opener Feb. 9 in Philadelphia and 15-7 over No. 18 UMBC this past Saturday in Neptune Beach, FL as part of the inaugural Face Off For a Cause Classic.
Delaware, the defending CAA champion and a 2007 NCAA semifinalist, will host Marist in the Blue Hens’ home opener this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium. Blue Hen head coach Bob Shillinglaw, now in his 33rd season as a head coach, will be coaching his 500th career game in that contest, becoming only the second coach in NCAA lacrosse history to reach the milestone.
Dickson played a pivotal role in both Delaware wins, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists vs. Saint Joseph’s and leading the way in Florida with a career-high five goals and one assist vs. UMBC. He scored the Hens’ first three goals and tallied all five scores in the first half as Delaware broke out to a 9-3 halftime lead and never looked back in claiming the victory in a rematch of last year’s NCAA quarterfinal matchup won by the Blue Hens.
A member of the 2007 CAA All-Rookie team, Dickson has now scored at least one goal in 11 straight games since last season and his current total of seven goals leads the team and the CAA.
Earning CAA Rookie of the Week honors was Robert Morris freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby. The midfielder, who also hails from Port Coquitlan, British Columbia, had two goals in his team’s 16-2 win over Seton Hill.
