BALTIMORE, MD -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team, which will continue its season this Sunday at the University of Virginia in a first round NCAA Tournament game, was selected No. 15 in the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coaches poll and tied for No. 14 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll announced Monday afternoon.
The polls were the final regular season polls of the season as the 16-team NCAA Tournament will get underway this weekend at eight campus sites.
Delaware (11-5), which has won five straight games, moved up two spots to No. 15 in the USILA poll and three spots to No. 14 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll. Virginia (12-3), the defending national champion, was at No. 3 in both polls. The two teams will square off Sunday at 5 p.m. in Charlottesville, VA at Klockner Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
Delaware is led by leading scorer Adam Zuder-Havens (at right) with 32 goals and by NCAA faceoff and groundball leader Alex Smith.
The top five teams were identical in both polls with undefeated Cornell (13-0) remaining at the top spot in each. Duke was No. 2 in both followed by Virginia, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins.
In the USILA poll, Maryland was at No. 6 followed by Princeton, Navy, North Carolina, Albany, Notre Dame, Loyola, UMBC, Towson, Delaware, Colgate, Drexel, Rutgers, Ohio State, and Bucknell. Massachusetts, Brown, and Yale also received votes.
In the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll, Princeton was sixth followed by Maryland, Navy, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Albany, Loyola, UMBC, Delaware, Colgate, Towson, Drexel, Bucknell, Rutgers, and Massachusetts, Syracuse, Ohio State, and Hofstra also earned votes.
