Delaware Men’s Lacrosse Stays at No. 18 in USILA Poll; Drops to No. 19 in Nike/Inside Lacrosse

athlete photoBALTIMORE -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team, which won its second straight game Saturday night with a 12-9 victory over Sacred Heart, remained at No. 18 in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Top 20 coaches poll.

The Blue Hens (8-5, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association), who clinched a spot in the upcoming CAA semifinals with the win, also dropped one spot to No. 19 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll.

Delaware will close out the regular season this Saturday, April 28, when the Blue Hens travel to Robert Morris for a 1 p.m. game. The Hens will then travel to either Towson or Drexel for the CAA semifinals May 2 with the championship game set for May 5. The champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Cornell remained the top team in both polls as the Big Red continues to be the only undefeated team in NCAA Division I. Cornell is 11-0 and earned all 11 first place votes in the USILA poll and all 15 first place votes in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll.

Duke was No. 2 in the USILA poll followed by Virginia, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Albany, Princeton, Maryland, North Carolina, Navy, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Loyola, UMBC, Towson, Bucknell, Drexel, Delaware, Colgate, and Hofstra. The Blue Hens have played six teams ranked in the top 20 and four of the seven CAA schools are ranked.

In the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll, Duke was at No. 2 followed by Virginia, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Princeton, Albany, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Navy, Syracuse, Loyola, UMBC, Towson, Colgate, Bucknell, Drexel, Delaware, and Ohio State.
