BALTIMORE -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team, coming off a 19-18 victory over Villanova last Saturday, was picked at No. 18 in both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Nike/Inside Lacrosse polls announced Monday.

The Blue Hens (7-5, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association) went 1-1 last week, falling to CAA rival Towson 10-9 on Wednesday and snapping a two-game losing streak with the comeback win over Villanova. Delaware will host Sacred Heart this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium and will clinch one of four spots in the upcoming CAA semifinals with a victory over the Pioneers.

Delaware appeared in the USILA poll for the eighth straight week but dropped one spot to No. 18 with 35 points. Undefeated Cornell (10-0) earned all 11 first place votes to remain at No. 1 in the USILA poll and was followed by Albany, Duke, Virginia, Princeton, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Navy, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Bucknell, UMBC, Loyola, Drexel, Syracuse, Towson, Delaware, Hofstra, and Army. A total of four CAA teams appeared in the top 20.

Cornell also remained in the top spot in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll, earning all 18 first place votes. Duke was at No. 2 followed by Albany, Virginia, Princeton, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Navy, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Bucknell, Loyola, UMBC, Drexel, Syracuse, Towson, Delaware, Colgate, and Hofstra.
