RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman midfielder Curtis Dickson (at right), who scored a career-high four goals in the Blue Hens’ thrilling 19-18 win over Villanova Saturday night, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for his performances in two games last week.
Dickson, a native of Port Coquitlan, British Columbia (Riverside High School), has taken advantage of increased playing time on the Blue Hen attack as he scored six goals last week as No. 18 ranked Delaware (7-5, 2-2 CAA) suffered a 10-9 setback at home to Towson Wednesday night before defeating Villanova on Saturday.
Dickson, who ranks seventh on the team in scoring this season with 11 points on eight goals and three assists, scored two goals on seven shots and added an assist and a groundball in the loss to No. 14 Towson.
In the win over Villanova, Dickson spearheaded a big Delaware comeback as the Hens rallied from a five-goal deficit late in the third quarter to post the victory. Dickson scored four goals and dished out an assist vs. the Wildcats, scoring three of the goals in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 2:49 left to play. The game was the highest scoring contest involving the Blue Hens since 1999.
In addition to Dickson, also honored by the CAA were Drexel junior Andrew Chapman and Hofstra junior Mike Unterstein as Co-Players of the Week.
Delaware will host CAA foe Sacred Heart this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium. The Blue Hens will honor their eight seniors in a pre-game ceremony while at the same time honoring the memories of former UD coach Milt Roberts and players Lee Levis and Lakeiben Brown. The game is also the annual Delaware Lacrosse Foundation Youth Day game.
A win for the Blue Hens would clinch a spot in the CAA semifinals May 2 at either Towson or Drexel.
