BALTIMORE -- University of Delaware men’s lacrosse head coach Bob Shillinglaw and senior attackman Adam Zuder-Havens (at right) have been honored by two separate publications for their accomplishments in last week’s action.
Shillinglaw was named the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week while Zuder-Havens, an attackman from Corning, NY (Corning East High School), was named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week.
The two helped the Blue Hens capture their first-ever Colonial Athletic Association tournament title as Delaware defeated No. 2 seed and 15th ranked Drexel 11-7 in Philadelphia on Wednesday night and followed with a 10-7 win over top seed and No. 14 Towson in the championship game Saturday. Delaware became the first No. 3 seed ever to capture the league title.
Delaware (11-5), which is ranked No. 15 in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, takes a five-game win streak into the NCAA Tournament this Sunday as the Hens travel to No. 2 seed and third-ranked University of Virginia for a first round game at 5 p.m. at Klockner Stadium. The Cavaliers are the defending national champions. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
Shillinglaw, currently in his 29th season as head coach at UD, led the Blue Hens to their first league title since 1999 and their second NCAA Tournament in the past three seasons and fourth overall. His 262 career victories ranks No. 4 among active Division I head coaches.
Zuder-Havens played a key role in both Delaware wins last week, netting a season-high tying four goals and dishing out an assist in the win over Drexel and adding three goals and an assist in the victory over Towson. He currently leads the Blue Hens in scoring with 32 goals and nine assists for 41 points.
