March 17, 2004 Blue Hens' Two-Game Win Streak Snapped by Hoyas WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware trailed No. 6 Georgetown 5-3 late in the second quarter, but Walid Hajj scored three goals in a 5-0 Hoya run as the Blue Hens dropped a 10-5 non-league men's lacrosse decision Wednesday afternoon. Delaware, which had a two-game win streak snapped, fell to 5-2 on the season heading into Saturday's home game vs. No. 18 ranked Air Force Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium. Georgetown (3-1) has now won all three games between the two teams. Delaware senior Matt Alrich (Calvert Hall/Timonium, MD) continued his scoring spree as he led the Blue Hens with three goals to up his Colonial Athletic Association -leading total to 17 on the season. Alrich has now scored a goal in his 22 straight games and his three goals marked the 12th hat trick of his career and the third of the season. Cam Howard and Jordan Hall also added goals for the Blue Hens with Howard chipping in with an assist. Delaware goalkeeper Chris Collins posted 18 saves on the afternoon. Georgetown, which advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last season, outshot the Hens 47-18, held a 53-22 advantage in groundballs, and won 14 of the game's 18 faceoffs. Hajj finished with a game-high four goals while Neal Goldman scored three times and dished out two assists, Nick Miaritis scored a goal and dished out three assists, and Derek Mills handed out two assists. Goldman scored two goals in the first quarter to give the Hoyas a 3-0 lead after one period of play but the Hens rallied back as Alrich scored consecutive goals off feeds from Dan Deckelbaum and Howard to cut the lead to one. The Hoyas responded with goals by Goldman and Miaritis to increase the margin to 5-2 midway through the second stanza. Howard scored an unassisted goal with 6:04 left in the first half to cut the lead to 5-3, but that would be as close as the Hens would get the rest of the day as they were held in check until early in the fourth quarter. Georgetown reeled off five goals, the first three by Hajj, between the 5:34 mark of the second quarter and the 13:07 mark of the final stanza to put the game away.
