Villanova 12, Delaware 6 April 26, 2003 Villanova Seniors Propel Wildcats to Win in Conference Finale VILLANOVA, PA - Behind a quick start and tremendous ball control the Villanova men's lacrosse team downed visiting Delaware 12-6 Saturday night at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats in one span ran off seven consecutive goals and the Blue Hens could not answer. The win brings Villanova's record to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware, which got three goals from Matt Alrich and two goals and an assist from Xander Ritz, lost their fifth straight loss and closed the season with a record of 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the CAA. Alrich closed out the year with a team-high 35 goals, the most by a Delaware player since All-American John Grant scored 56 in 1999. The Wildcats Chris Kramer got on the board first at the 10:35 mark of the first quarter with a blast past Delaware goalie Chris Collins. Two unassisted goals by Matt Starker and Richie Kratz followed shortly after as Villanova's lead grew to 3-0. Delaware answered back with 7:29 remaining in the first with a goal from Ritz. Alrich added two straight goals and Bob Meunier added another for the Hens bringing the score to 4-4 with 9:04 left in the second frame. Villanova responded with eight consecutive goals the last of which came at the start of the fourth and Delaware could only manage two goals in response. Villanova was led by Marc Creegan who scored four goals and assisted on two others. Making the most of Senior Night was Brian Marks who distributed the ball with ease en route to five assists. Brendan O'Donnell scored three goals, Kramer and Kratz had two, and Starker added one in the victory. Goalkeeper Joseph Canuso was tough all night and recorded nine saves on 23 shots attempted by Delaware.
