STONY BROOK, NY -- Host Stony
Brook University got four fourth-quarter goals from Kevin
Pall and three more scores from Sean Farrell and ran away
from a 3-3 halftime tie to post an 11-7 non-league men's
lacrosse win over the University of Delaware Saturday
afternoon at Seawolves Field.
The Blue Hens, who won just 4 of 22
faceoffs and were hurt by 13 penalties, extended their
losing streak to eight games to fall to 2-9. Stony Brook,
which was playing its final game at Seawolves Stadium before
moving into a new facility next season, improved to
8-5.
Delaware, which will return home to face
Denver next Saturday night at Rullo Stadium, was led by
sophomore Scott Evans (St. Peter/Peterborough,
Ontario) who scored a career-high four goals, his third
multiple goal game of the season. Junior R.C. Reed
(Boy's Latin/Timonium, MD) added a goal and an assist while
Chris Bickley (Abington/Jenkintown, PA) and Andy
Hipple (Moorestown/Moorestown, NJ) also scored
goals.
Stony Brook, which took advantage of
Delaware's season-high 13 penalties by scoring fiveextra man
goals, four in the final quarter, broke away from a 3-3 tie
by outscoring the Hens 4-2 in both the third and fourth
quarter. Denis Scannell added two goals and a game-high
three assists.
The Seawolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead
after the first quarter but the Blue Hens quickly fought
back and got goals from Bickley, Hipple, and Evans in the
second quarter to knot the score at 3-3 leading into
intermission.
An Evans goal four minutes into the third
quarter tied the score again at 4-4 before Stony Brook got
goals from Scannell and Farrell to go back up 6-4. Evans
struck again for the Hens to cut the lead to 6-5 with 7:53
left in the third quarter, the closest UD would get the
remainder of the game.
The Blue Hens cut the lead to two at 8-6
on an Evans goal with 11:12 remaining, but Stony Brook
struck back with two man-up goals by Pall in a span of 47
seconds to put the game away. Pall scored another man-up
goal with 3:55 left for some insurance, his team-high 42nd
goal of the year.
