Delaware Men's/Women's Track and Field Assistant Coach Mark Fields Updated 8/15/03
One of the top sprinters in University of Delaware men's track and field history, Mark Fields returns for the second year of his second stint as an assistant coach with the UD men's and women's track and field programs. Fields, 32, who works with the Blue Hen sprinters, also assisted with UD track and field teams from 1996-99. A native of New Castle, DE and a graduate of William Penn High School, Fields was a standout sprinter for the Blue Hen indoor and outdoor track and field teams in 1989-93, earning eight letters. A team captain, he led the UD indoor team to the North Atlantic Conference team title in 1993 and second place finishes in 1990 and 1991. Outdoors, he led teams to four straight second place finishes at the conference championship. Individually, he captured league titles in the and competed at the IC4A championships. He still holds the UD indoor record in the 200 meters (22.25) and has the sixth fastest 300 meter time (36.3). Outdoors, Fields owns the third fastest 100m time in school history (10.5) the fourth fastest 200m time (21.77), and was a member of the 400 meter relay team that set a school record of 41.23 in 1992. He captured three individual conference titles during his career, winning the 400 meter relay outdoors in 1990 and 1992 and the outdoor 100m dash in 1992. He also competed t the IC4A indoor and outdoor championships all four years. He began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, William Penn High School, in 1994-96.
